COMMUNITY PRIMARY
SCHOOL PROGRAMME

Because children are the foundation of the future, early education plays a crucial role in raising awareness regarding environmental issues. To provide coastal children with opportunities for future employment beyond turtle egg harvesting, the TCP launched the Community Primary School Program. This develops community skills and talents and provides an alternative source of income for community members. By fostering close connections between the TCP, local adults, and childhood education, our program strengthens community involvement in sea turtle conservation. In return, community members contribute to conservation efforts in various ways, such as rescuing sea turtles entangled in fishing nets.

The TCP has continuously sponsored five community primary schools in coastal regions of Sri Lanka, including Rekawa, Bundala, Panadura, Kandakuliya, and Kosgoda. Contributions have included baby chairs, desks, toys, educational materials, and blackboards. Additionally, TCP has employed primary school teachers at some locations, encouraging them to provide quality education. In Rekawa, the TCP covers the cost of free herbal drinks for primary school children, ensuring their well-being while they learn.
