THE MODEL MEDICINAL GARDEN

The model medicinal garden program serves two main purposes:

1) to educate community members and visitors about the benefits of medicinal plants, and

2) to generate income through the sale of these plants.
Additionally, the gardens provide communities with vegetables, fruits, spices, timber, and firewood.

Seeds and small herbs are selected based on local weather and soil conditions. Rare or less common plants are sourced from institutions such as the Ayurvedic Research Centre in Nawinna and the Ayurvedic Centre in Ranna for propagation in nurseries. Volunteers work alongside community members to maintain these nurseries, following expert guidance from the Department of Agriculture. A designated TCP committee member regularly visits each garden to assess progress and report back to the main committee.
